Mandal-Bechraji SIR: The meeting with the ministers unfruitful; the agitation to get stronger

As per the earlier updates, in the meeting with the CM on 10th July 2013, he had assured the representatives of the anti-SIR agitation that the demands of the people would be respected (with regard to withdrawal of the SIR notification). However, owing to fulfilment of some formalities it was decided that a group of 4 ministers and 4 representatives of the movement meet to take this agenda further.

In pursuance of this, a meeting was held yesterday, 30th July 2013, in Gandhinagar where 4 leaders from the group leading the anti-SIR movement in the Mandal-Bechraji area met 4 ministers of the GoG.

The ministers categorically refused to entertain the demand for withdrawal of the SIR notification. They only said that the farmers can, if they so wished for now, continue with their agricultural operations. If the farmers wished, in the future (3-4 years hence), they could demand the SIR, till which time the area would be declared as an agriculture zone.

This proposition is not acceptable to the movement and to the people. The next round of planning will take place now and consultations will be held with the people. The next meeting, to share the news and analysis with the people and to plan for the future is to be held on 2nd August 2013 in village Vasna at 3 pm.
