The primary focus of the meeting was on the ongoing national movement against the draconian citizenship law and potential disenfranchisement due to NRC-NPR. It was felt that our country is at a historical juncture today witnessing a mass uprising of lakhs of common citizens especially by women, students, muslims and members of different faiths. We have entered the second phase of the peaceful civil disobedience and ‘azadi’ struggle against fascism.

Key Resolutions of the Meeting:

1. NAPM resolves to unilaterally oppose the unconstitutional and draconian combine of CAA-NRC-NPR. Be it on the Kashmir, CAA or electoral bonds, the Supreme Court has sadly not been taking a quick and pro-active stand. We call upon the SC to live up to the constitutional mandate and declare CAA as ultra vires and stop the Government of India from going ahead with NRIC and NPR.

2. In these unprecedented times, we acknowledge the valiant, creative and peaceful struggles of the Muslim community, especially women and students across the country as well as communities in the North-Eastern states in leading the current phase of resistance, along with lakhs of ordinary citizens and are fully willing to work with them against the anti-people moves of the BJP Government.

3. NAPM understands that along the CAA-NRC-NPR, massive corporate loot of natural resources, dilution of land, labour, environmental laws, reckless privatization would rob crores of Indian of their citizenship and livelihood rights. We condemn the privatisation of over 50 public sector entities in the past few months including moves to privatize railways.

4. NAPM unequivocally condemns the unlawful firings, arrests and state repression in the wake of anti-CAA-NRC protests and vows to stand by those affected by such clamp down by participating in fact-findings, facilitating legal assistance, protests etc.
NAPM shall try to organize district wise Jan Adalats across Uttar Pradesh to gather information and extend solidarity to those who have faced repression.

5. Alongside raising the issue as NAPM, we shall also be an active constituent of a) We The People – an all India initiative to assert constitutional secularism, justice and resist CAA-NRC-NPR b) Young India Coordination Committee against CAA-NRC-NPR c) Jan Adhikaar-Jan Ekta Andolan and such other like-minded processes.

6. NAPM calls upon the nation to mark 26th January (Republic Day) as We The People Day of Resistance and join the joint singing of We The People anthem composed by Charul-Vinay. NAPM also calls upon citizens to mark 30th Jan (Martyrs’s Day) as Fraternity Day and participate in human chains across the nation.

7. We strongly oppose the decision of the government of India to invite Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro to the Republic day celebrations. His anti-women, anti-queer, anti-indigenous communities views are well documented. His anti-environment agenda has resulted in the roll-back of laws on protection of the Amazon rainforests and deforestation of the lung of the world has accelerated.

8.NAPM extends its full support to the call issued by NPR-NRC-CAA Virodhi Morcha for a Maharally at Gandhi Maidan, Patna on 29th Feb. NAPM also extends its solidarity with the Bharat Jodo – Samvidhan Bachao Samajwadi Vichar Yatra organised by Samajwadi Samagam. We call upon our constituents to participate in these events.

9. NAPM gives a call for a one day symbolic fast across the country on 22nd February marking Maulana Azad’s death anniversary

12.NAPM shall try to actively organize events and workshops in different states at the local level and within constituent organizations to build awareness on the various aspects of CAA-NRC-NPR as well as constitutional rights.

13.NAPM shall write to the Chief Justice against CAA as well as to CMs and parties in power in non-BJP states to pass resolutions against CAA-NRC-NPR and stall the process in their states.
