Call for Grassroots Feminist Stories – Documenting Struggles & Resistance

Starting from Women’s Day: 8th March, 2025

Dear feminist friends in NAPM and ALIFA members,

Revolutionary Greetings on the International Women’s Day. Hope you all are doing well. Many of us have just returned back to our villages and cities, energized by our collective participation at the historic 30th year All-India Convention of NAPM at Hyderabad from 1st to 4th March, where almost 700 saathis gathered from 20+ states and numerous movements across India. Those of us who could not attend physically have been inspired, watching the text, visual updates being shared.

Many NAPM women comrades and ALIFA members spoke powerfully in different plenary sessions of the Convention and also participated actively in the ALIFA parallel session on Day-2. ALIFA members also contributed to deliberations in other parallel sessions on agrarian issues, workers rights, youth organizing, urban struggles, health rights, law & justice, riverine issues and climate justice, citizenship, communal harmony, rights of marginalized communities, RTI & institutional accountability, Palestine solidarity. The songs and cultural presentations of ALIFA members was indeed very moving. We also shared our stories and journeys especially during the nights, through informal discussions, dialogue, dance and songs.

As we mark yet another Women’s Day from 8th to 10th March (International Women’s Day to Savitribai Phule Death Anniversary), we would all, of course, be immersed in activities in our areas, in different parts of the country. To continue the energy generated at the National Convention and also the Women’s Day actions, ALIFA proposes various activities in the ongoing year. This particular Appeal focusses on one such activity, to document women’s individual and collective struggles and stories of resistance and resilience, in different contexts. The focus of this exercise would primarily be to text, audio and video document the expressions and experiences, personal journeys and political perspectives of women, transgender and gender non-binary saathis from ALIFA and NAPM associated fora, grassroots, working-class movements, organizations and diverse marginalized backgrounds.

We strongly feel that every woman has a story to tell. And the story of every woman must be told. For the world to know what extraordinary effort it takes for ‘ordinary’ women to live through patriarchy and continue to organize against injustices of various hues, be it caste, class or other forms of oppression, over long periods. Through this appeal, we warmly invite ALIFA members and NAPM feminist comrades to be part of this long-term exercise.

You can either self-document your own journey in text, audio or video format and send to us or a team of ALIFA members can assist grassroots feminist activists in this regard. Please note that this effort is for documenting the struggles of women, transgender and gender non-binary persons only. Subject to consent of each saathi, we hope to amplify these stories of resistance on the ALIFA webpage and social media handles in March and beyond. महिला दिवस से शुरू: 8 मार्च, 2025…

अलीफ़ा और एन.ए.पी.एम के संघर्षशील नारीवादी साथियों,
आप सबको अंतरराष्ट्रीय महिला दिवस की क्रांतिकारी शुभकामनायें। आशा है कि आप सभी अच्छे होंगे। हममें से कई साथी हैदराबाद में आयोजित एन.ए.पी.एम के अखिल भारतीय अधिवेशन से अभी-अभी अपने गाँव और शहर लौटे हैं। 1 से 4 मार्च तक आयोजित इस ऐतिहासिक 30वें वर्ष के सम्मेलन में 20 से अधिक राज्यों और विभिन्न आंदोलनों से लगभग 700 साथी शामिल हुए। हमारी सामूहिक भागीदारी से हम सबको काफ़ी ऊर्जा मिली है। जो साथी व्यक्तिगत रूप से उपस्थित नहीं हो सके, वे भी साझा की गई रिपोर्ट्स और तस्वीरों से प्रेरित हुए।

सम्मेलन में एन.ए.पी.एम की कई महिला साथियों और अलीफ़ा सदस्यों ने विभिन्न सत्रों में जोरदार तरीके से अपनी बातें रखीं और अलीफ़ा के समानांतर सत्र में भी सक्रिय भागीदारी निभायी । अलीफ़ा सदस्यों ने कृषि संकट, मज़दूर अधिकार, युवा मंच, शहरी संघर्ष, स्वास्थ्य अधिकार, कानून और न्याय, नदी संरक्षण और जलवायु न्याय, नागरिकता, सांप्रदायिक सद्भाव, वंचित समुदायों का हक, सूचना अधिकार व संस्थागत जवाबदेही, फिलिस्तीन एकजुटता जैसे अन्य समानांतर सत्रों में, विचार-विमर्श में योगदान दिया। अलीफ़ा सदस्यों के गीत और सांस्कृतिक प्रस्तुतियाँ ने सबका दिल छू लिया । देर रात के संवाद, नृत्य, गीतों और अनुभव-साझाकरण में भी हमारी एकजुटता गूँजती रही।

महिला दिवस (8 मार्च) से सावित्रीबाई फुले पुण्यतिथि (10 मार्च) तक, हम सभी अपने-अपने क्षेत्रों में विभिन्न गतिविधियों में व्यस्त होंगे। राष्ट्रीय सम्मेलन और महिला दिवस की गतिविधियों में उत्पन्न ऊर्जा को जारी रखने के लिए, अलीफ़ा इस वर्ष विभिन्न गतिविधियों का प्रस्ताव करती है। यह अपील मुख्य रूप से, महिलाओं के व्यक्तिगत और सामूहिक सफ़र व संघर्ष की कहानियों को दर्ज करने की दिशा में पहल हैं।

इस प्रयास का मुख्य उद्देश्य अलीफ़ा और एन.ए.पी.एम से जुड़े मंचों, ज़मीनी स्तर के आंदोलनों, श्रमिक वर्ग के संगठनों और विविध वंचित समुदायों से आने वाली महिलाओं, ट्रांसजेंडर और जेंडर नॉन-बाइनरी साथियों की अभिव्यक्तियों, अनुभवों, व्यक्तिगत, सामूहिक सफ़र और राजनीतिक दृष्टिकोणों को लिखित, ऑडियो और वीडियो के माध्यम से दर्ज करना है।

हम समझते हैं कि हर महिला की एक कहानी है, और हर महिला की कहानी बताई जानी चाहिए। दुनिया को यह समझना होगा कि ‘साधारण’ महिलाओं को इस पितृसत्तात्मक व्यवस्था में जीने और अन्याय के खिलाफ़ संगठित होने के लिए, कितनी असाधारण व लंबी लड़ाइयाँ लड़नी पड़ती हैं—चाहे वह जाति, वर्ग, या किसी अन्य रूप में उत्पीड़न हो।

इस अपील के माध्यम से, हम अलीफ़ा और एन.ए.पी.एम के नारीवादी साथियों को इस पहल से जुडने के लिए आमंत्रित करते हैं। आप अपनी कहानियों को लिखित, ऑडियो या वीडियो प्रारूप में स्वयं दस्तावेज़ कर हमें भेज सकते हैं। यदि आवश्यक हो, तो अलीफ़ा की टीम ज़मीनी स्तर की नारीवादी कार्यकर्ताओं की सहायता कर सकती है।
